ArtPrize: Grand Rapids Art and Performance Contest

"ArtPrize is a radically open competition. Open to any artist in the world who can find space. Open to anybody in Grand Rapids, Michigan who wants to create a venue. Open to a vote from anyone who attends."

It would seem to me that artist should increase the spreading of information, about this art competition. I am currently creating a piece that I would like to enter for "ArtPrize".  It will be 5'x8' in dimensions, consisting of a mix of my commercial artwork with my professional style. I will later post images of my progress of this painting on the sight.

Information about the contest:
This contest is one of the largest art competitions that I heard about so far.

How does it work??

1. You create a profile on the website.
2. People who want to be a "Venue location" create a profile of their space on the website.
3. Come time for a venue to chose artist and artist to chose venue as space will began to fill up with artwork of the two who agreed on their artist/venue.
4. Voting by members then open and will remain open for the duration of 18 days as voters come from all over to attend.
5. Winners are then decided.

There is a $50 application fee for the contest.

2010 prizes winners’ amounts were:
1st place:  $250,000.00
2ed place: $100,000.00
3ed place: $50,000.00
4th thru 10th place: $7,000

This winning amount number could change. I am not familiar with how they obtain their funding or how they distribute to the event and winners.

A benefit about this event is you have a chance to win $250,000.00 or to simply be recognized for your work and possible gain contracts from interested prospects.

True Note:
I spoke with a woman who has participated in the competition for the last two years. She informs me that she did not win, nor did she placed in the top 100, however, she was able to obtain about 14 new paying commission and over 80 others possible future commission because of the event.
